Installation

There is no single right way to set up a WaterLily - there is also no wrong way, as long as you are safely capturing fast moving water or wind. You have to be creative and think about the best way to capture the most water or wind energy in your current environment, keeping in mind that rivers can be dangerous and your personal safety should be the most important factor. Here are some suggestions to get you started; for more suggestions and examples, visit our YouTube channel.

Across the Flow

This configuration works well in rivers where you have anchor points on both sides.

In-line with Flow

This configuration works well in rivers, and could also be used to tow the unit behind a canoe or kayak.


X Configuration

This is a very stable configuration, but also the most work to set up. It is a good option for wind, where it can be installed between two trees.

Vertical

In this configuration you can hang the WaterLily from a single point, using a weight (knapsack, rock, etc.) to keep it from swinging. You can then use the charging cable to keep it oriented in the direction of the wind.


Anchor the Output Port

Any time you use the WaterLily around water, you should tie off the Output Port to be sure that it (and your connected device) does not get pulled into the water.


Notes

Be careful when choosing your anchor points, and in the knots you use, especially around water. A failed knot or anchor point could mean your device is pulled into the water. We have included a diagram of secure knots as a suggestion.

After using the WaterLily in salt water, rinse it off in fresh water to help prevent salt deposits and corrosion.

If anything gets stuck inside the WaterLily (grass, string, etc.) it can be easily disassembled to clean. Just remove the four screws to remove the cover, and unscrew the nose cone to remove the rotor.

Some devices do not handle direct charging from the WaterLily when the water or wind speed is low. This will be apparent because the device will alternate between charging and not charging as the turbine speed changes. One solution to take care of this issue is to:

  • Charge a power bank with the WaterLily, and then charge your device from that.

Important Safety Information

  • Do not put your hand inside the device while the blades are spinning. Injury may occur.
  • Do not cut the cable, or continue to use the device if the cable becomes damaged.
  • Do not attempt to modify the device in any way.

 

 


 

Knots

The Double Bowline (pictured) is a great choice for putting a fixed-size loop in the end of a rope. It is a secure knot that will not come undone on its own, but is also easy to untie if needed.
